Post-Reading

OBJECTIVES:

·         TSWBAT construct annotated notes for plant cell material. (ch. 1)

·         TSWBAT paraphrase the processes of photosynthesis and respiration using a study guide. (ch. 3)

·         TSWBAT create visual flashcards as a study strategy for vocabulary words.(ch. 2)

·         TSWBAT list the steps of reproduction for flowering plants and conifers using visual guides . (ch. 4)

MATERIALS:

·         Study packet        Study.Guide worksheets.doc (29,5 kB)

·         Colored pencils

SET/FOCUS:

·         ABK/IAL/RRL: Take a survey of the class. Have students tell me how they study for tests. “I don’t know” is an appropriate answer. Have each student state how they study. Put the tally and findings into a graph. Discuss what the graph tells us.

·         LL: For the next few days, we are going to study for our plants test coming up. We are going to try different ways to study.

INSTRUCTION:

·         Study packet – students will have 30 minutes to work on in class. They are also to finish the packet for homework. The packet will briefly be covered the next day. Students will use to study for a couple of days before the test. Enrichment will be used in class for science until test day. Have section names listed on board (cells, plant parts, photosynthesis, reproduction) Have the students choose the section that was most difficult for them and start the study guide on that section. This allows extra help for them in their difficult area.

CLOSURE:

·         Have students tell which study strategies they did first. Tell which ones they liked and disliked of the ones that they completed. Why did they like this type of strategy. Why do we need to learn how to study? Which study strategy do you think you will use in the future?

ASSESSMENT:

·         Take up study packet materials. Make notes to give back to kids. They will use these to study for the upcoming test.
